Six sigma: a Motorola venture
10/31/2008
No, it is not. So many people think of six sigma to be Motorola property but it is actually not. But certainly Motorola has a lot to do with six sigma. And in fact being one of the first fortune 500 companies Motorola showed corporate trust on six sigma approach. It is Motorola who just took their part copy right protected and works in the six sigma environment. How much benefits did they reap from such dogmatic adoption? Well, we can see Motorola everywhere now, its brand appeal and proposition. We can figure out the impact and inner strength of this company, no doubt staying outside of it.
Motorola certainly have given a big boost adopting this quality management process. Motorola’s invocation to the theory has enabled them to plan production and manufacturing abilities as such latest expectations from the customers are reflected on what they are producing in their factories. Their adaptation with the theory or dogma insisted them to align process activities as much as in conformity with the expectation to result better performance.
This helped them to introduce tools in monitoring and evaluating performance at various points of production. An arrangement is made to justify the product performance with invention of logical filters. All these efforts has resulted in a big business boost, dramatic effect in profit margin, a better and happier organizational employee pools. It just helped Motorola turn into a better enterprise.
A team of professionals helped Motorola to identify the dogma like Bill Smith and Mikel Harry. This eventually asked for a recommended use of 6 sigma approaches on their organization context and to get their findings and recommendation right protected. Six sigma is not a Motorola venture, Motorola is more tuned in to establish them as the best six sigma example.
